Fine Arts

Aditi Johari

We say that ‘Actions speak louder than words’. From the olden times art has been an act, a way of expressing one’s emotions, of portraying one’s thoughts and his personality to the world. Art has been a tool for people to forget their lives’ tensions and anxieties and just relish the moments in which they live . It washes from the soul, the dust of everyday life. Art has many forms. One of the diversifications of art is the category of ‘fine arts’. It is an art form that refers to a form practised mainly for its aesthetic value and its beauty, rather than any functional value. It is an ‘Art for arts’ sake’. Fine arts is rooted in drawing and design-based works such as painting, architecture and sculpturing. But over time the meaning of art (fine arts included) has changed. Art now encompasses a lot more and has acquired a whole new meaning. It has evolved with technology and artistic intervention.

Talking of art, there was a lot of creativity and talent seen, during the 3-day extravaganza we became a part of, the annual cultural fest of GGSIPU, Anugoonj 2015. We witnessed a lot of imagination and originality all the three days through various competitions and artistic events. Under the umbrella category of Fine Arts, Anugoonj invited hoards of art enthusiasts and all those who were excited to ‘showcase their vision and talent’. With the help of student co-ordinators and their unlimited zest to make their college’s fest, a great success, many challenges were thrown for the various participating students of USS and the students of all the affiliated college of I.P.U. Following were the different fine arts events held on the 3 days:
• On the Spot Painting
• Collage Making
• Cartooning
• Clay Modelling

The organizers for the competitions brainstormed good ideas and themes for the participants to work upon and fight winning accolades and appreciation. Themes like 'Khajuraho Festival' were given to the participants of the painting competition. An interesting topic was given to the participants of the collage making competition which was,'To Paris, With Love..' . Themes of such likes were given to the students participating in various other competitions of the fine arts competitions. The faculty of USS along with some teachers from other colleges played the role of the external and the internal judges. The judges were also really happy looking at the efforts students put in to the different contests and applauded & motivated the students too.
